ABIDING HOPE – If I were asked to define ABIDING HOPE my definition would read something like this – remaining patient and staying confident with expectation in something (JESUS) Romans 8:24-25 says it well…
For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with endurance.
Our Christian HOPE eagerly awaits the return of Jesus – He’s our HOPE! We don’t see him but we believe and trust that his promises are true. Abiding hope is REMAINING, CONTINUING, STAYING, WAITING, SETTING OUR MINDS and KNOWING that what Jesus says in his word is true. Those are the keys to ABIDING HOPE.
1 Peter 1:13 –Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Psalm 71:14 – But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more.
1 Thessalonians 1:3 – constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father
Hope, it’s all over the bible, scripture after scripture. God wanted us to be SECURE in our HOPE in him. It’s not a I think so HOPE — it’s a SURE HOPE! I love that, no doubting, no wondering, no guessing but KNOWING! Do you know this HOPE in Jesus Christ? God wants us confident in this. I believe when we can walk in confidence and assurance, we are changed!
Satan likes to get us feeling hopeless. He knows when we feel hopeless, we have the potential to get discouraged, when we are discouraged we tend to lose our confidence. This is how we get stuck. How can we stay above this hopelessness? One of the ways is abiding – constantly remaining with Jesus. That’s why Jesus told us to ABIDE with the Father, he knew how important it is. When we abide our Hope comes to life.
I love the old hymn, “My HOPE is built on nothing less” as I was writing this post it kept coming to mind and I wanted to share the lyrics with you…
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.
On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
Tough times will come in this lifetime that we are assured but Jesus is our ANCHOR! He is our HOPE! Christ is our SOLID ROCK! We need to saturate our hearts with scripture, opening the Word and letting it speak to us, encourage us, grow us and help us. Jesus never changes and neither does his Word. His truth we can hold onto! If we put our HOPE in the things of this world we will soon be disappointed, but when we secure our HOPE in Jesus he doesn’t disappoint, EVER!
Psalm 119:114: “You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope.”
Hebrews 6:19-20 “We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf…
God’s Word is my source of Hope — He is a steadfast anchor of the soul! Two truths to hold onto!
Father, Our hope is in you and only you! You are our steadfast anchor, our solid rock! Help us to stay the course with you, remaining with you! We trust you Jesus and we know that you will NEVER disappoint us. Everything in your word is true, you are truth, Father, that’s why we can put our HOPE in you! We know that you are with us through the storms of life, walking hand in hand with us. We await your arrival, Jesus. It will be a glorious day, all of our Hope will become sight and we will live forever with you. Oh Jesus we look forward to that day! Until then we will not waiver in our faith or our hope in you!
This will be my last post in the ABIDE SERIES until mid December. I have a few things scheduled on the blog to go out though. I am going on a short-term mission trip to Chiapas Mexico, and visiting an orphanage Casa Canaan, we will return around December 16th. Continue to Abide girlfriend…my prayers are with you all!
