ABIDING LOVE – ABIDE SERIES

Maybe you have been asking the question, “How do I ABIDE?” Well, if you have confessed Jesus as your Savior, then you ABIDE in God. 1 John 4:13-15 gives clarity to this.

1 John 4:13-15 By this we know that we ABIDE in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

The second question you may be asking is, “How do I ABIDE in his love? How do I REMAIN, STAY and DWELL in his love?

John 15:9-10 As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; ABIDE in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you will ABIDE in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and ABIDE in His love.

The Father loved Jesus and Jesus loved his disciples, they both love us. Abiding in his love requires us DWELL and to KNOW how much they love us. It is one thing to KNOW – but when we intentionally, on purpose, get this into our hearts; we are forever changed.  Ephesians 3:16-19 says to GRASP this! That word GRASP means to — seize and hold firmly. In other words, take hold and never let go how much Christ loves us.

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted  and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people,  to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge —that you may be filled  to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:16-19

We need to GRASP the love of Christ, get it into our hearts, meditate on how WIDE, LONG, HIGH and DEEP his love is for us.

I believe some of us don’t really know how much he loves us… It says, in John 15:9, As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you! Wow! As the Father loved Jesus, He only begotten Son, our Savior — the loving, obedient, sinless, perfect savior, Jesus, he loves us the same as the Father loved him. When we begin to understand this, really GRASP this, we begin to know his love, to know our worth in him and we change! Our relationship changes! There is no love that compares to HIS LOVE. We can try to compare it our earthy relationships but they always fall short. God’s love – Christ’s love NEVER falls short in our lives.

1John 4:10 – This is real love–not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

1 John 4:16 – And we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. God is love; whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

John 15 goes on to say, If you keep my commandments, you will ABIDE in my love. We know in the New Testament, that Jesus gave the two greatest commandments in Matthew 22:37-40, LOVE HIM and LOVE OTHERS. Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

John 14:21 Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”

1 John 2:3 And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments.

When we ABIDE in his love, we are actually loving him with our all heart, soul and mind. When we obey him – accepting all of his commandments and walking in them, we are abiding in his love. That word commandment may scare you. Sometimes, when we think of that word, we get overwhelmed. Our Father doesn’t want to overwhelm us, he wants the best for us.

John 15 Verse 11 – 15  –  I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is my command: Love each other.

Right after he gives us the instruction to keep his commandments, he quotes the above verse. “I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! He KNOWS us –  He LOVES us and he wants our JOY to OVERFLOW.

Sometimes, Jesus gives us a hard word or a hard command to follow, NOT because he wants us to suffer but because he wants our joy to overflow, our JOY to be complete. Jesus wants us to love others in the same way he loved us. He laid his life down for us, that was his love to us. He wants us to love others in the same way…WOW!!

These verses are so rich – so full of truth. Everything that the Father and Jesus tell us is for our own good. This truth we need to ingrain in our hearts, it all for our GOOD. Everything they command us to do in the Word is because they loves us and they chose us.

ABIDE – DWELL – REMAIN – STAY in the LOVE of JESUS!

Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Father, Thank you for your precious Word! Your Word changes us, transforms us and guides us as we live here on earth. Your Word is SO rich and full of truth. Help us to know that each Word was meant for our good. To know when we follow you and your Word that we will overflow with JOY! Your JOY! You tell us to ABIDE in you, ABIDE in your love, because apart from you we can do NOTHING! Give us strength to do as you command, to walk in your ways, to please you with our lives. We want to be your friend, but we know in order for this to happen, you word clearly say to do as you command. Help us, Father, to do as you command. Thank you for your love, your mercy and your grace that gets us through all the things we encounter in this life. Help us to love others as you have loved us!! You want us to bear fruit, good lasting fruit, only when we ABIDE can we do this!! In Jesus Name!
