Prayer is CONNECTION with the Father!

That word CONNECTION is a powerful word! We want CONNECTION. We thrive CONNECTION. We NEED CONNECTION. We desire that CONNECTION with our Jesus!

When we CONNECT with Jesus, we ABIDE! When we speak (pray) to our Father, we are forming a relationship with him. Taking time to slow down our busy lives and quiet our hearts before him is often the hard part. The resting, settling, quieting, doesn’t always come natural to us. But oh, how we need to REST in him! To commune with Him! To be still with him.

Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. Psalm 5:3

In our relationships, communication is the way we CONNECT with the other person. Prayer is just that, communicating with God and forming that bond – that sweet connection. I think sometimes we complicate prayer though. We make it harder than it is. Why? Why do we complicate it so much?

Communication is about giving and receiving. We give to the other person our words, and our hearts and in return they give us theirs. It’s really the same in prayer. We give God our words and heart and in return we receive from him…

The question we need to be asking ourselves is this — are we  listening when he communicates? Sometimes we miss God because we aren’t listening for him to speak to us. We miss the receiving part!

My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:1-5

Are you tuning your ears to what God is saying to you? He has so much to say…

For a long time I let my shyness keep me from praying. I thought there was a special way to pray. I thought that if I didn’t have the “RIGHT” words to share with God that he wouldn’t be pleased. That was a lie! A lie from Satan himself. Overtime, I began to open my heart, pray scriptures, and talk to God in a way like I talk to my friends and family. I discarded the lie, and replaced it with truth. I learned that God is more pleased when we just be ourselves with him. If you are his child he loves you and he is waiting for you to connect with him.

Be who you are – David prayed in the Psalms in a “REAL” way. Here is a beautiful example of a prayer David expressed to the Lord in Psalm 86. He was opening his heart before the Lord, praising him, requesting things, glorifying his name and just being in his presence. Take the time to read this prayer, it will touch your heart!

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help. Protect me, for I am devoted to you. Save me, for I serve you and trust you. You are my God. Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am calling on you constantly. Give me happiness, O Lord, for I give myself to you. O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord; hear my urgent cry. I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble, and you will answer me. No pagan god is like you, O Lord. None can do what you do! All the nations you made will come and bow before you, Lord; they will praise your holy name. For you are great and perform wonderful deeds. You alone are God. Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth. Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever, for your love for me is very great. You have rescued me from the depths of death. O God, insolent people rise up against me; a violent gang is trying to kill me. You mean nothing to them. But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. Look down and have mercy on me. Give your strength to your servant; save me, the son of your servant. Send me a sign of your favor. Then those who hate me will be put to shame, for you, O Lord, help and comfort me.

How will you start to openly communicate with your Father this coming week…he is waiting for you!

Father, help us to abide in you, to stay connected to you through prayer. You want so much for us to openly share our hearts with you. Your Son, Jesus, was our example. He stayed connected to you in prayer – he slipped away and spent time with you, communing with you. Help us, Father, as sometimes it’s hard for us to quiet ourselves and listen to your precious words and guidance. We need your truth to surround us, to throw off the lies of Satan. All you want is for your children to be open and real with you. Thank you that you give us this freedom to express ourselves with you! We love you, Jesus!

Hi Tammy, I love this reminder to abide in Christ through prayer time with Him. I’ve recently decided to get back to basics in my walk with Him and this post was such a great encouragement.
Thank you so much. I’m pinning it to share now as well.
